My newest work, also my submission for the Spaceartists ( ) second devpack, Impacts.
Spent a long time on this, longer than usual. The flaming planetoid is in a separate file and is much higher native resolution. Don't even bother starting to nitpick any science you might assume is behind this, because this is 100% art (A lot of the stuff in this I did just for effect, a couple of ideas I've been tossing around for awhile).
I dislike a few small things about this, mostly relating to the image above the actual physical mass of the planetoid (I need to learn about shadowing and smoke a bit more) and perhaps in the starfield, but I tried other versions of the starfield and they all didn't look as good.
A like a few larger things about this image: It feels warm. Sure, the planet is gonna be wiped out by a huge flaming meteor/planetoid, but it feels so COMFY.
Secondly, the radiance effect reflecting from the moons. You can see it if you look close, it's like heated gas flowing off the surface. And also the little "pockets" of warm-colored nebula gases around the moons, I also enjoy that. And the planetoid itself, I think I managed the break-up of it well.
Anyway, now that I wrote you a book, enjoy. Nobody's prolly gonna read this anyway.
Yeah, I was kind of going for that, I wanted to separate the moons. Hence the shadow, the gas pockets, and the other accentuations. Thanks for the feedback, though.
Great work on the raging planet A little more (or a stronger) texture would do the planet good. The starfield needs a little work. All in all a really good job!
holy crap! thats what i said when i saw this, its awesome. its warm, youre right lol. and ppl do read your explanation (or at least i do) this looks amazing.
not as sure on the main planet texturing as i could be, however the overall composition is very nicely done, kinda like an evil version of skurvy's vacker eld. Good work on the comet
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
